Chavis to speak at BAC conference

Co-organizer of the Million Man March on Washington, D.C. Benjamin Chavis Jr. will be the keynote speaker at the Black Affairs Council Leadership Conference at SIUC that runs Nov. 2-5.

This year’s theme is Education, Economics, and Empowerment:Foundations for the Black Agenda.:The conference is an annual event that includes roundtable discussions, corporate displays, networking opportunities, entertainment and religious study.

Other speakers include poet Mona Lake and attorney Patricia Russell-McCloud.

Chavis’ Keynote address will follow a 6 p.m. banquet Nov. 4 in the Student Center Ballrooms.

Russell-McCloud will speak at a luncheon on Nov. 3. Lake will speak at 9 a.m. Nov. 4 in the Student Center Auditorium.

Tickets are available in the BAC office in the Student Center. Cost is $35 for SIUC students, $45 for SIUC faculty and staff and $95 for students from elsewhere. All others will pay $100. Tickets for individual events are available at reduced prices.
