A call for DE readers’ Perspectives
January 23, 1996
Last semester we attempted to run the Perspectives column on Tuesday and Thursday.
Here are the guidelines:n We are looking for original ideas, 700-750 words maximum, that elaborate on a topic that will interest the SIUC student population and the surrounding local population.
n We do not allow personal attacks. If you disagree with someone, use logic not venom your argument will be accepted more readily by your audience.

n Finally, type, double spaced, your final draft. We understand that for many, some of us included, the best ideas come in the strangest places the bathroom, in a rainstorm or at the bar but please, write yourself a note and then find a computer or typewriter. Bar napkins and toilet paper do not hold up well.
The DE reserves the right to not print any perspective submission, but rest assured there are very few, if any, ex-communists here longing for the days of Pravda, and if you fall within the guidelines our only alterations will be for grammar unless we have talked with you first. We want your ideas, not our own worn out ones.
What will you write about? If you look in the last few issues of this paper, we are sure that there is some story that you will find yourself mumbling over the stupidity or brilliance of the idea presented. But watch where you mumble. People tend to give space to individuals having heated arguments with themselves.
With the final copy you submit we require your name, major, job if applicable and a phone number during the day. We will contact you to arrange for a photo to go along with your Perspective.
So that’s it. Let us hear your enlightened views. Dazzle us with your brilliance. Give us a chance to have heated arguments with ourselves and scare people.
