Antwone Turner, 18, of Mae Smith Hall, was charged with retail theft Thursday at Kay’s Merchandise in University Mall. Turner allegedly was caught stealing Sony PlayStation items and video games. The stolen items were valued at $249. Turner was released from the Jackson County Jail Friday on $250 bond.

A 20-year-old woman reported a residential burglary between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of East Sycamore Street. Stereo equipment was stolen, and the case is under investigation.

Kenneth Lee Slowden, of Carbondale, and Virgil Smith, of Du Quoin, were charged with burglary after they allegedly broke into a trailer home between 9:30 and 11:40 a.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of South Illinois Avenue. Stereo equipment was reported stolen. Slowden is in jail, unable to post $500 cash bond. Smith was released on recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court.

A 20-year-old student reported that between Aug. 31 and 5:30 p.m. Thursday, someone entered her campus residence hall room and stole $243 cash from a desk drawer. There are no suspects.
