One of the best movies this fall has an exhilarating soundtrack to match its success. Released two weeks before the movie, the Soul Food soundtrack has music for all audiences to enjoy.

By Gus Bode

A variety of music throughout the soundtrack ranges from the mellow sounds of Boyz II Men to the more up-tempo sounds of Total and Xscape. Other artists featured on the soundtrack are R&B groups Tony Toni Tone, En Vogue and Outcast. This is one of very few soundtracks that has tracks honestly related to the movie.

The soundtrack is also impressive in that it introduces a smooth love ballad by the new group Milestone (K-Ci and Jo Jo, of R&B group Jodeci, Babyface and two members of R&B group After 7). Although the artists are not new to the music industry, they produce a fresh, new sound.

The ballad, I Care Bout You sang by Milestone is one of the songs that stands out on the album as they sing, Girl I care bout you/I’m there for you/so why don’t you care for me/like I care ’bout you/I make sure that I give you quality time/But lately I feel you’re not here by design.

Other well-produced tracks are Slow Jam by Monica and Usher, You Are the Man by En Vogue and We’re Not Making Love No More by Dru Hill.

On We’re Not Making Love No More track, Hill sings more passionate than usual. The group’s voices express emotion as if the song reminds them of a past occurrence.

Affectionately, Hill sings, We’re not making love no more/we’re not even trying to change/tell me how it slips away/does it ever stay the same.

With the exceptions of non-essential tracks by pop group Tenderoni and R&B group Blackstreet, this an all right soundtrack. Music that appeals to everyone makes the best compilation. From slow to fast, Soul Food has it all. And of course, it has more than just a pinch of soul.
