The $27,000 goal set by WSIU-TV for its December membership pledge drive was broken Sunday, the last day of the fundraising.

Calls from Effingham, Mt. Vernon, and Harrisburg, as well the rest of Southern Illinois, began coming in on the first day of the pledge drive, Dec. 6. Callers were offered incentive items, such as a videotapes of programs and program guides, for their donations of $35 to $150.

We rely heavily on people to contribute, Larry Raymond, WSIU membership manager, said. These are our largest fund-raisers.

Membership drives are sponsored two to three times per year in hopes of raising one-third of the station’s $2.9 million budget.
