The SIU volleyball team (10-5, 1-1) finished its weekend road trip with a sweep (25-20, 25-16, 25-18) of Drake (10-9, 1-1).

After hitting for a .178 attack efficiency Friday night against Northern Iowa, the Saluki offense hit for a combined .369.

Sophomore outside hitter Abby Barrow led the Salukis with 14 kills on 26 attempts with two attack errors.

“I feel like I have a bigger role this year,” Barrow said. “I knew coming into this year I would need to step up and be more consistent.”

With just two healthy middle hitters in the lineup for the Salukis, coach Justin Ingram shook the rotations up.

Junior setter Meg Viggars played a few rotations at middle hitter. She had 22 attack attempts along with 17 assists, ten digs and four block assists — continuing her routine of filling up the stat sheets.

“Tonight we put more effort into everything we did,” Viggars said.

Adding to the attacks from the middle was sophomore Alex Rosignol, who hit for a .875 attack efficiency.

The final two sets of the match — SIU never found itself down on the scoreboard.

“After some lengthy discussions and educational meetings about yesterday’s match, we saw all the possibilities we missed,” Ingram said. “What you saw tonight is what we need to be throughout the season.”
