‘Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’ delayed

Square-Enix announced “Deus Ex: ManKind Divided” will be delayed until Aug. 23, 2016.

A post on the game’s official website claims the developer, Eidos Montreal, does not want to compromise the quality of the game by releasing it before it is ready.

Head of Studio David Anfossi said in a statement, “As you may have already seen by reading and watching the many previews for ‘Deus Ex: Mankind Divided,’ our aim is for it to be a worthy successor to ‘Human Revolution,’ and to improve upon that game in every way possible. I know that expectations are extremely high, and we not only want to meet those expectations, but exceed them,”

“We’re confident and proud of the game so far. However, as we are now playing through the game in full we can see that it will require more time in post-production for tuning, iterations, and refinement to meet our high standards. In order to achieve this, we need to move the release of the game to Aug. 23, 2016.”

Many people view delays as bad news, but there is a positive side to it. More time spent developing a game makes it better and a six-month delay is plenty of time to improve upon it.

The Deus Ex series is highly regarded and I’m glad Eidos Montreal is willing to take the extra time to do right by the series and live up to its pedigree.

Rainbow Six getting open beta.

An open beta for the upcoming “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege” was announced, which will be free Nov. 25-29 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

This event is less of a beta and more of marketing technique. Giving everyone open access to the game before it releases promotes the game and helps to bring in new buyers.

If anything is tested, it will be the game’s servers. By having an open beta it encourages a large number of people to play the game and therefore puts stress on the servers. This will hopefully work out any kinks in the system before the game launches on Dec. 1.

While the title of a beta is misleading, I like it when companies do this because I can get a feel for the game and see if it is worth purchasing before it is released.

PlayStation 2 emulation coming to PlayStation 4

Sony confirmed it is working on bringing PlayStation 2 emulation to the PlayStation 4.

In an email with a Sony representative, WIRED magazine was told, “We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation.” This was followed by, “We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”

It is still unconfirmed if players are able to put their own PlayStation 2 games into their PlayStation 4 or if they will have to repurchase the older games again on PlayStation Network.

This idea is clearly a response to the praise Microsoft received from bringing backwards compatibility to the Xbox One.

I am not sure how much demand there is for PlayStation 2 games on the PlayStation 4, but they are certainly harder to get than PlayStation 3 games.

Ultimately, having the option is a good thing, and I am glad Sony is doing this. It is another prime example of how competition can be good for companies and the products they release. The competition makes their products better.
