Two Salukis named to academic all-district team

Two Saluki football players were honored for excelling on the field and in the classroom Thursday. 

Senior quarterback Mark Iannotti and junior wide receiver Billy Reed were named to the 2015 Academic All-District V team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Iannotti is fourth in the Football Championship Subdivision with 360.9 yards of total offense per game and 2,351 passing yards this season. He also maintains a 3.89 GPA working toward his degree in marketing.

Reed leads the team in receptions and yards with 35 and 519 respectively, with two touchdowns. Reed is majoring in finance with a 3.85 GPA.

The two Salukis join 15 other Missouri Valley Football Conference players named in either District V or District VI. 

Iannotti and Reed are coach Dale Lennon’s 19th and 20th Academic All-District honorees in his time at SIU.

Both men are now eligible to be named to the Academic All-American team, which will be announced in early December.

If both are named to the All-American team they will be Lennon’s ninth and 10th All-American team honorees.
