For students who just want to chill in a more laid back environment, or for those who just want some coffee so they can stay awake for those all-night study session, Carbondale offers quite a bit of everyone’s favorite legal stimulant.
Gloria Jeans, in University Mall, offers all sorts of coffees, lattes, Mocha Chillers and chocalate covered coffee beans. As far as a sit down environment, patrons are pretty much limited to sitting in the mall as shoppers walk by. But for those at-home study sessions, coffee beans, mugs and more are available at the store.

Jaguar Java is available in three convineint locataions for students who are waiting for class to start or are just getting some studying done. Students can find Jaguar Java in the Student Center near the Hall of Fame, Woody Hall, and the Wham Educational Building.
Melange, 607 S. Illinois, has a peasceful environment during the day with its outside garden. In the night, patrons can see a variety of bands and there’s never a charge. In addition to all this, there’s plenty of coffees and pastries to choose from.
Mungo Jerry’s Fat Cat Cafe, 1023 Chestnut St., Murphysboro, is worth the drive for the hip atmosphere and has a very whimsical design. While coffee is the main attraction at the cafe, there is also alcohol to give it a bar atmosphere as well, especially when bands visit.
Longbranch Coffee House, 100 E. Jackson, is smoker and non-smoker friendley with separate sections, for each. They also display the work of local artists and with it’s location on the town square, complete with brick streets, the coffee house gets a real classic feel to it.
