Senior sprinter Kelsey Toussaint broke three SIU school records at the Iowa State Track and Field Classic in Ames, Iowa this past weekend. Toussaint shattered both the 200m and the 400m records and was part of the record-breaking 4×400 team as well.

Her performance in the 200m earned her a tenth-place finish out of 127 runners, and she legged out an eighth place honor in the 400m. The 4×400 team recorded a time of 3:43.40, which broke the previous SIU record by three seconds and earned them a fifth-place finish out of 35 teams.

Toussaint was not the only runner moving up in the SIU record books.

Junior 800m runner Ty-Nica Davis ran into second-place in the history books with a time of 2:10.06 to grab a tenth-place finish.

Sophomore Brittani Christensen paced herself to a tenth-place finish in the 5000m with a time of 17:09.84, also moving her into second place in SIU history.

Junior weight-thrower Amarachi Ukabam continued her dominant season with her fifth first-place finish in five meets. Teammates Venisha Williams and Brittany Riley finished fourth and eighth, respectively.

In the shot put Ukabam threw herself into third place and fellow SIU junior Megan Cenkush grabbed sixth place. In the triple jump, senior Inna Turevsky hopped, skipped and jumped her way into ninth place.

On the men’s side, junior sprinter Felix Anderson ran a provisional NCAA Championship qualifying time of 47.02 in the 400m, securing a tenth-place finish. The run moved Anderson into fourth place all-time at SIU. Anderson also posted a tenth-place finish in the 200m.

Two top tens were posted in the men’s field events, with junior triple jumper Kenan Shadd soaring to fifth place in his second meet of the season with a jump of 50-08.

Also finishing in the top ten was senior high-jumper Freddy Rule, who stayed consistent with his previous performances and leaped into eighth place with a jump of 6-10. In the weight-throw, Matt Weishaar and Mark Milleville placed 13th and 15th, respectively.

The SIU men’s and women’s track teams head to Eastern Illinois University this weekend to compete in the Friday Night Special.
