Volunteer organizes Cause for Paws to raise money for local animal shelter
Tiffany Ferguson, a volunteer for the Humane Society of Southern Illinois, realized that the shelter was in need of funding and decided to organize a benefit to raise money.
“I just realized they didn’t have a lot of funds coming in, so I thought that maybe I could help,” Ferguson said.

Cause for Paws will take place at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Hangar 9. All proceeds from the door and a raffle will go toward the Humane Society of Southern Illinois.
“The Humane Society has been great,” Ferguson said. “They are really excited.”
Attendees will be charged $4 at the door, or $2 if they bring an item from the Humane Society wish list. The wish list can be found at www.humanesocietysil.org, and includes items like dog or cat food, dog treats and kitty litter.
Sally Carter, owner of Hangar 9, worked with Ferguson to organize the benefit. A pet owner herself, Carter said she wants to help out the Humane Society.
“I can’t wait,” Carter said. “I’m always willing to help them raise money.”
There will be four bands playing at the event:PBR Street Gang, Dammit Boys, Josh Plemon and the Lonesome Four and States. In addition, there will be a raffle of items donated by local businesses.
“There’s some pretty cool stuff,” Ferguson said.

There will also be information available about animals, the Humane Society and programs that the shelter offers.
Ferguson said everyone has been helpful and she is looking forward to the event.
“Things like this need to be done,” she said. “For some reason I just thought I could.”
Carter said Hangar 9 hosted a similar event several years ago and it was successful.
“I’ll be happy if a lot of people come and enjoy themselves,” Ferguson said.
