Explore the siuDE.com special break issue

By Gus Bode

This edition allows the user to experience again the most popular stories as well as some editors’ picks that include important stories from the print edition as well as video stories from River Region Evening Edition. Traffic statistics for the site revealed “Illini won’t play our team” as the most read story for Fall 2006. Three stories about the demotion of Walter Wendler made the top 20, at second, ninth and 13th among the most viewed. “Common infection” drew national attention from those who wanted to learn more about the HPV vaccine; these page views totaled third among popular stories this term.

Other reader top topics by traffic:

  • Students suspended
  • Pork prankster sentenced
  • Bad Dawg

  • To sign or not to sign

Web editors’ picks:

  • Saluki in the stars
  • Training Private Ryan

  • Best of the semester photo shows

The web team would like to take this opportunity to thank its web users for your support of nearly half a million page views this semester. We launched quietly on September 25, followed by an official debut on October 2, so some big stories, such as the original game story of the Salukis win over Indiana (football), didn’t make it into the new site. We invite you to write your thoughts in a few current issue forums during break:

  • The state’s ethics test failed by professors ‘nbsp
  • Halloween laws and the SIUC party school image
