Sports Banter:

Former New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who recently retired from the Dallas Cowboys, has denied reports that he will return to the NFL for a 15th season even after the Jacksonville Jaguars offered him a position. Do you think Bledsoe should remain retired?

“Bledsoe will probably not return, unless Bill Parcells signs on somewhere and brings him in, but his comeback wouldn’t be unprecedented. At 35, he wouldn’t even be in the top three for oldest QBs in the league. If this trend keeps up, Geritol and Viagra may replace Budweiser and Pepsi as the NFL’s leading advertisers.”

“A lot of teams could use someone like Drew Bledsoe on their roster, especially if someone like Vinnie Testaverde can come out of retirement and play starting QB for the Carolina Panthers. If I were Minnesota, I would give him a share of team ownership to play QB for me.”

“Bledsoe was successful in his time as a Cowboy and I can’t figure out with the success rates of some of the quarterbacks in the league why he wouldn’t want to. He would have a starting position at a handful of teams and should think about his decision to stay retired a little harder.”

“I think if his body is able to and he’s able to help out the team, I know the Jaguars need a quarterback. Obviously Vinnie Testaverde did a pretty good job for the first week when he came back, so as long as he’s able to play I think he should give it a try.”
