Dear Editor:

Congratulations to all those who worked so hard to preserve the Varsity Theater and a big thank you to the wonderfully generous Kerasotes family. The facility will make a fabulous venue for the local arts community and will aid in the revitalization of the Strip. Here in Rockford, the Kerasotes family’s gift of the Coronado Theater, one of only 50 “wonder theaters” in the United States and a $20 million capital campaign transformed and preserved this local landmark for generations. Fund raising is ongoing through the friends of the Coronado and as a result of strong community support, the theater hosts top flight arts programs and is a local treasure for our residents, visitors and local arts organizations. Good job Carbondale! I invite you to stop and see our theater when in the area.
