Series of earthquakes shake Illinois, Midwestern states

By Gus Bode

The seismic activity felt by the Midwest just before 10:15 a.m. was the most recent of five earthquakes centralized around southeastern Illinois.

The quake was recorded as having a magnitude of 4.6, and was preceded by four earthquakes that began at 4:37 a.m. today.

The first of today’s earthquakes was measured to be a 5.2, and woke up the region at 4:37 a.m. No damage has been reported at this time, but a wide diameter that includes Louisville, Ky., and northern parts of Illinois have reported feeling tremors at that time.

All five of the epicenters, or location of the movement, are located near Olgby, a small town north of Interstate 64 and 110 miles west of St. Louis.

A more detailed report will be posted at www.siude.com later today, and printed in Monday’s issue of the Daily Egyptian.
