Students mix with one another
September 8, 2008
Graduate and Professional Student Council plans to hold a mixer Thursday to help students in the graduate and professional community meet each other.
Kyle Stevens, president of the council, said the event would be a great way for graduate and professional students to interact with people not in their programs.
“It will let people network a little bit before school really hits us hard and before we just start hanging out with people in our own departments,” Stevens said.

Food and drinks will be provided for students, but the council will not provide alcohol. Stevens said the bar would be open for those who wished to purchase an alcoholic drink.
Jordan Garrison, a second year law student from Carlinville and a member of the council, said the amount of money it would take to pay for the event would be an insignificant part of the group’s total budget. The money comes from the student activity fee paid by graduate students and allocated by GPSC.
He said it would cost $250 to rent the room and pay for staff. Because some food should be provided, he did not think the event would cost more than $400.
The event will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Gatsbys II Bar ‘ Billiards on South Illinois Avenue.
