Carbondale mayor elected to National League of Cities Board

By Gus Bode

Mayor Brad Cole announced Monday he has been elected to the National League of Cities Board of Directors.

Cole was unanimously elected to serve a two-year term during the 2008 NLC annual Congress of Cities and Expositions held last week in Orlando, Fla. Cole said the new position was an honor for the city of Carbondale.

‘This will allow me to have an even greater role in shaping some of our national policy issues,’ Cole said.’ ‘At the same time, it is a great honor for Carbondale to have a seat at the table with such an impressive group of elected officials from across the country.’

Cole will be one of 40 members of the board of directors and one of three representing an area of Illinois.

The National League of Cities is an organization that represents 19,000 cities, towns and villages throughout the United States and works to promote cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance.
