Banter: Are you surprised with what happened at the NFL Draft?

By Gus Bode

With the first round of the NFL Draft wrapping on Saturday, which pick was the most surprising to you?

Luis C. Medina:

This draft was full of non-surprises. The Bengals drafted a player with character issues, the Raiders drafted a future bust and the Bucs drafted quarterback. The only surprise was the Vikings drafting Percy Harvin. I’m surprised they are going to give this young quarterback a chance. Wait, he’s not a quarterback. He didn’t fill Minnesota’s one glaring weakness? I guess there really is no surprise there.

Ryan Voyles:

To me it has to be the saga of Andre Smith. Here was a guy who was hyped as the next great offensive lineman out of college. Then because of the combine, everybody completely turned and starting drinking Haterade about him. Some experts were saying he may fall to late in the second round. Sure enough, he was taken sixth overall, right were everybody thought he would three months ago. Weird. You’ve got to love the ‘expert analysts.’

Derek Robbins:

I wasn’t surprised to see Mark Sanchez go where he did, but I was a tad taken back that the Jets traded up to get him. I know the Jets need a quarterback, but will Sanchez really be their fix-all? Sure, he’ll be better than Kellen Clemens, but…who isn’t? I thought New York would be content with a different QB falling to them, but I guess they can just settle for the latest USC bust.
