Banter: NBA Draft Part I

By Gus Bode

Blake Griffin is a lock for the No. 1 overall pick by the L.A. Clippers in Thursday’s NBA’ Draft.’ Who is the second best player on your draft board?

Matt Freeland

‘I could go with a bunch of different players as my No. 2, but I’m going to say Arizona State’s James Harden is the second best player in this year’s draft. He has good size for a shooting guard, is athletic and has been nothing but a leader in both high school and as a Sun Devil.’ He averaged 20 points a game and shot 50 percent from the field last year with more than five boards and four assists per game.’

‘Johnny Flynn hands down. And I actually have thoughts about saying Flynn is the best player in the draft. Many times the best player is not chosen at No. 1. Kobe Bryant was picked 13th for example. Many experts believe the absolute highest Flynn would be picked is fourth, but I say take him second. Actually, I say take him first.’

Sean McGahan

‘I too am impressed by a point guard, but his name is North Carolina’s Ty Lawson. On his way to a national title, he led the Tar Heels with everything he did. He took over when he needed to and distributed when he needed to. With and without the ball he may be the fastest player in this draft, and he should probably be the quickest to leave the board after Griffin.’
