The Gaia House Interfaith Center is in dire financial straits.

With insufficient funds, board members, employees and friends of the Gaia house are concerned about its future.

The Gaia house suffered a loss of $8,127.15 for the 2011 fiscal year, leaving a $6,636.05 balance as of Dec. 31, 2011.

Tabitha Ayres, Gaia House’s interim chair facilitator, said the Gaia House has about two or three months’ worth of money left.

“By month three you are going to know if the Gaia house is going to swim,” she said.

At last month’s board of directors meeting, Gaia House president and treasurer, Erika Peterson, resigned leaving the organization leaderless.

The board had its monthly meeting Wednesday, where the financial problem was discussed and the board brainstormed fundraising ideas.

Ayres said the Gaia House’s monthly income currently averages $3,281. 50 and monthly expenses average $4,179.11, which is about a $900.00 monthly loss.

“The financial situation is very serious; if we don’t make a change the Gaia House is going to shut down,” she said.
