Alex: I say the Giants in seven. San Francisco has home-field advantage because of the National League’s triumph in the All-Star game, which saw Detroit pitcher Justin Verlander give up a three-run triple to Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval in the first inning. Both teams have had different paths to this juncture. I think San Francisco’s resiliency and the fact that they will play a potential game six and seven at home will be the determining factors.

Ben: I’ve got to go with the Detroit Tigers in six. The Giants definitely have the momentum and the home field advantage, but the Tigers have the best pitcher in the league in Justin Verlander, and the Triple Crown winner in Miguel Cabrera. If the Giants can steal a couple wins early, they can steal the series. If not, the Tigers and their big bats will be crowned the champs.

Demario: San Francisco will win in six games because they are riding momentum from the most unlikely comeback this side of the 2004 Boston Red Sox. Although Detroit has all the big names, I think the Giants will end this year in storybook fashion.

Sarah: The Giants have the momentum coming off the Cardinals series where they had to fight back after being down 3-1. Normally, rest is good for a team, but the last time the Tigers had five days off in the postseason—in 2006—they lost in five to the Cardinals. While Verlander throws upper 90s consistently and hasn’t lost a game since Aug. 1, he is just one pitcher. After limiting the Cardinals to one run in the last three games of the series, I say the Giants in five.
