Women’s Golf Finishes 10th at Islander Classic

SIU golfer Moyea Russell takes a swing at a ball on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 at Hickory Ridge Public Golf Course in Carbondale, Illinois. Russell, who was named MVC golfer of the week recipient in late September, after hitting three rounds of 74, 73, and 74 for a total score of 221 (+5) to tie for eight place overall.

The Saluki Women’s Golf team voyaged to the Corpus Christi Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas over February 20-21, where they competed in the Islander Classic. SIU tied for 10th place with Stephen F. Austin State, scoring +108 over par.

Southern’s total score was 972, placing just behind Omaha who recorded a total score of 968 and shot +104 over par.

The Dawg’s leading golfer was Secilia Ho who finished rounding out the top 25 by shooting +25 over par and totaling at 241. Kylee Vaughan finished close behind Ho at 28th overall shooting 242 and +26. Ella Overstreet was also not too far removed from the Saluki’s top 2 golfers shooting 244 and +28 but placing 36th overall.

Ayanna Habeel shot 246 and Morgan Gindler finished with a score of 253 to round out the team.

The Salukis will next travel to the Hampton Cove in Huntsville, Alabama to take part in the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate during March 6-7, hosted by Samford University.
