Women’s Basketball earns road win against Murray State

The Salukis traveled to Murray State and brought home a conference win Friday night.

Southern hit the ground running in the first quarter of the game, out scoring the Racers 20-16. Murray State came back in the second quarter out scoring the Salukis 24-14, but after the first half the Salukis took the lead and never looked back.

Finishing the game 81-73, the Dawgs shot above .500 in every area. They went 9-16 in three-pointers, 12-19 in free throws, and 30-59 shooting from the field. They only had seven turnovers compared to Murry’s 12, but made up for them with seven steals.

The Salukis were led by Ashley Jones who had a team high of 21 points, followed by senior Promise Taylor finishing the game with 13 points. The team’s only true freshman, Jaidynn Mason finished with ten points and Quierra Love finished with nine points.

This win puts the Salukis at 7-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

The Salukis will travel to Nashville, TN to take on the Belmont Bruins with hopes to bring home another conference road win. Southern will play the Bruins at the Curb Event Center at 2 pm on Jan. 22 to end their four game road trip.
