Senior Day sweeps for Saluki swimming and diving team

The SIU swimming and diving team celebrated its seniors on Friday, as Shea Natatorium hosted its final meet of the year. Both the men’s and women’s teams came away victorious; both beat Lindenwood, while the latter also defeated Little Rock in a tri-meet.

Southern came away with wins in half of Friday afternoon’s 32 events. Among those wins were nine for the men’s team and seven for the women’s team.

Olivia Herron led the way for the women, with four event wins. She took first place in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke, 200 IM, and as part of the 400 Medley Relay team with Lucia Romero, Jasmine Rau, and Karen Rodriguez.

Rodriguez also added wins in the 200 and 500 Freestyle events. Tamara De La Torre won the 200 Butterfly race.

On the men’s side, Ruard Van Renen took home four wins in the 100 and 200 Backstroke, 200 Freestyle Relay, and 400 Medley Relay. Joining him in the 200 Freestyle Relay was Mykyta Terentiev, Donat Csuvarski, and Alex Santiato, while his teammates on the 400 Medley Relay were Tiago Falerios, Jack Khrypunov, and Alex Cimera.

Khrypunov also placed first in the 200 Butterly event. Csuvarski and Selim Hassan won the 50 and 200 Freestyle events respectively. Gustav Persson won the 200 Breaststroke, and Lee Haywood rounded out the victories with a first-place finish in the 1-Meter Dive event.

The programs will tour the Midwest over the next week, with meets in Evansville, Ind., Charleston, Ill., and Columbia, Mo., ahead of the upcoming conference championship meets in February and March.
