SIU Women’s Volleyball players form a circle to cheer up and plan a tactical move to get level with the opponent team from Loyola University on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021, in Davies Gym at SIU. The Salukis went on to lose in all three sets with score lines of 22-25, 13-25 and 17-25.

Davies Gym was the home of an inter-conference matchup between Southern Illinois and Indiana State on Friday, November 4. This was the first of the final two home games of the Salukis’ season.

The Salukis had an impressive start to the game, gaining a large seven-point lead before a fire alarm delayed the game for roughly 30 minutes. Despite the late-set comeback from Indiana State, the Salukis managed to finish them off, 25-18.

The second set was much more competitive. The Sycamores came from behind to win the set, 26-24.

It was then the tone started to shift back towards the Salukis. Indiana State and Southern Illinois kept it close once again in the third set, with SIU eventually winning 25-22.

It all came down to the fourth set, where the Salukis were attempting to close them out and the Sycamores were fighting to stay alive. Indiana State wouldn’t have enough, as SIU emerged victorious, 25-23.

Senior Tatum Tornatta led all Salukis with 18 kills, while sophomore Anna Jaworski totaled 50 assists on the day. Freshman Claudia Bobb led the way on defense with 17 digs on the day.

The Dawgs’ final home game will be against Evansville on Saturday, November 5, in Davies Gym.
