By Danny Connolly, Staff Reporter

SIU will have surveillance COVID-19 testing for students living in on-campus housing starting next semester.

In an email sent to current students living in campus housing on Nov. 13, the university announced the new testing procedure.

SIU will be conducting COVID testing of all on-campus residents with the resumption of classes for the spring semester,” the email reads.

According to Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Lori Stettler, SIU’s Emergency Operations Center is now developing a testing plan to be approved by the Chancellor’s cabinet.

“We are still in the planning stages with our partners, Southern Illinois Healthcare, who will perform the testing for the campus,”  Stettler said.

University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign mandated all students on campus or attending in-person classes to be tested weekly and has administered over 835,000 COVID-19 tests.
