COVID-19 Update: Jackson County reports 46 cases, one death

Jackson County Health Department reported 46 new cases of COVID-19 and one death on Wednesday.

A man in his 40s, previously confirmed to have COVID-19, died. 

The health department is currently monitoring a record-high 325 active COVID-19 cases, according to a Wednesday tweet.

As of Wednesday, there have been 1,990 confirmed cases in Jackson County and 28 deaths, according to the release, and 1,637 individuals have been released from isolation in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Franklin and Williamson Counties reported 110 cases and two deaths Wednesday.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Health reported 12,657 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and 145 additional deaths.

As of Wednesday, there have been 523,840 positive cases in the state of Illinois and 10,434 deaths.

In a press release, IDPH said it is asking all residents to stay home as much as possible over the next three weeks. 

“Our goal is to reduce transmission as we head into the holidays so businesses and schools can remain open,” the release said.

A mobile COVID-19 testing site will be open Nov. 12 at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, according to a Jackson County Health Department press release.

Testing is free and the site is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individuals with health insurance are asked to bring their insurance cards, but individuals without insurance can still get tested.

The Jackson County Health Department asks all residents to follow public health guidelines by wearing a mask in public, maintaining social distance, avoiding social gatherings, washing hands frequently and working with health department officials as they conduct contact tracing.
