73 Illinoisans passed away from COVID-19 since yesterday. This is the largest number of deaths in one day in Illinois, Gov. JB Pritzker said during his daily press conference. 

There are 1,287 new cases of COVID-19 Dr. Ngozi Ezike, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, said. 

The statewide total now is 13,549 cases and 380 deaths, Ezike said. 

As of yesterday, 43% of total hospital beds, 35% of intensive care unit beds and 57% of ventilators were available in Illinois, Pritzker said. 

From last Tuesday, 23 new counties have reported cases of COVID-19, Pritzker said. 

Pritzker said he is very grateful for the 100 ventilators received overnight by California and the 600 from the US government. 

“When we can, once we are past our peek, Illinois will pay it forward. We will pay it forward any way we can,” Pritzker said. 

A member of Gov. Pritzker’s office tested positive for COVID-19. Pritzker said he did not have regular contact with the individual and has not been tested. 

 Ezike said she also didn’t have regular contact and has not been tested either.

COVID-19 Update 4/6: 1,006 new cases and 33 new deaths in Illinois

There are 1,006 new cases and 33 deaths due to COVID-19 in Illinois, according to data released at Gov. JB Pritzker’s daily briefing on Monday.

The total is now at 12,262 cases and 307 deaths in Illinois, according to Dr. Ngozi Ezike, Director of Illinois Department of Public Health. 

Ezike said people of Illinois should not go out tomorrow even though it will be the warmest day of the year. 

“I assure you, if people congregate tomorrow, we will set the state back in the fight against COVID-19,” Ezike said. 

Pritzker and Ezike said people should use technology and stay home to celebrate religious holidays. 

People will now be able to see the number of cases per zip code on the IDPH website, Ezike said. 

As of Friday, Pritzker increased the number of hospital non intensive care unit beds to 28,000 and 2,680 ICU beds statewide. 

“Our strongest weapon against COVID-19 is you, all of you, all of the people in the state of Illinois. We have to be all in for Illinois,” Pritzker said.
