Junior infielder Kelsey Gonzalez fields a ground ball during practice at Charlotte West Stadium on Wednesday. Gonzalez, one of three captains this season, said the softball team is young and still learning the game. “We have a lot of people moving into new positions,” Gonzalez said. “We know what we need to work on, especially when we get into game situations.” Gonzalez said she was honored to be one of the captains this season. “I just hope it all works out in my favor,” Gonzalez said. The Salukis will play Butler University and Indiana University Sunday in Bloomington, Ind., in a preseason matchup.
