Salukis outlast Ramblers in overtime

By Kayli Plotner

It took a freshman to send the game into overtime and a sophomore to ice the game for the Salukis second straight conference win.

SIU (8-15, 4-6) entered the game with momentum after beating Indiana State by 19 Wednesday but Loyola (8-14, 3-7) would not go down without a fight in the Salukis 81-76 win.

Sophomore guard Anthony Beane set a career-high with 27 points while senior Desmar Jackson added 20 points.

Freshman Tyler Smithpeters went to the line trailing by two with 1.0 left on the clock. Smithpeters told his teammates not to worry. He then hit both to send the game into overtime.

The Salukis will try to keep the momentum as they travel to Drake Tuesday.
