After a disappointing season, the Saluki football team has been hiring new staff as well as bringing in four transfers to help right the ship.

SIU added depth on both sides of the football.

The team added a quarterback and an offensive lineman on offense and a defensive end and cornerback on defense.

Ethan Wirth, a sophomore offensive tackle for the Salukis, said the team had new faces at the team meeting on Sunday.

“For the spring semester, coming in for spring ball, we have four transfers at the moment,” Wirth said.

Mark Iannotti, a quarterback from Eastern Michigan University, was a dual-threat quarterback in high school. Rivals.com ranked Iannotti a two-star recruit while he was at Schaumburg High School. He committed to Eastern Michigan in December of 2010.

Garrett Clark, an offensive lineman from the University of Southern Mississippi, was a three-star recruit out of high school. Clark attended North Gwinnett High School in Jacksonville, Fla.  Wirth said Clark played special teams at Southern Miss.

Malik Jones, a defensive end from the University of Maryland, was a three-star recruit out of Paul L. Dunbar High School in Baltimore. Wirth said he heard players relate Jones to current Saluki defensive end Kitray Solomon.

Kendric Randolph, a cornerback from Eastern Arizona Junior College, was a two-star recruit out of high school. He signed his letter of intend to play football at SIU Jan. 5.

Wirth said the team will lift weight during the spring and they can have up to 15 practices. The 15^th practice will be the spring game.
