Wolfgang Vandiver a senior studying art endures the heat inside the L. Brent Kington Smithy to hammer out a spoon from steel. SIU is one of 14 universities in the nation that maintains a blacksmithing program and the only in the nation with a Master of Arts program. Blacksmith majors are encouraged to pursue sculpture and casting their creative energy into metal.
