SIU Celebrates Earth Month at Bucky’s Haven

In honor of Earth Month, SIU professors and students attended the celebration at Bucky’s Haven on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, near Campus Lake, in Carbondale, Ill. The event consisted of talking about the dome structure, sharing sound reflections inside the dome and taking part in meditation.
Nico Sánchez-Barberán and Gloria Inés Orozco Dorado play a duet Saturday, April 10, 2021 at SIU. Sánchez-Barberán and Dorado are professional musicians and play duets under the name The Two of Us. The duo has played in Mexico, the United States, and Columbia.

SIU’s International Festival Talent Show: Showcase of Gifts from around the World

The International Festival has many events, one of which is a talent show featuring SIU’s most talented international students. This year, the event was held virtually Friday, April 9, 2021, allowing students to submit their entries by video or perform them live on Zoom. The range of talent was vast. So was the diversity of participants who came from countries in Latin America to Bangladesh to China.

Community program paves the way for young entrepreneurs

In 2010, the Midland Institute for Entrepreneurship began providing a space for high school students to build their own businesses while touring local companies and speaking with other businessmen and women through the Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities (CEO) program.

The history of St. Patrick’s Day in Catholicism

St. Patrick was a man of Catholic faith that lived from 385 - 461 A.D. After being enslaved in Ireland as a young boy, St. Patrick studied theology in England before returning to Ireland to share the Catholic faith with its denizens. It was during his return trip to Ireland that his fame and notoriety blossomed via his efforts in teaching the Catholic faith and helping the needy through times of difficulty.

“We are on the council that helps all the Black students on campus. We are actually a resource to them. Dairy Queen creates a sense of nostalgia for many members of the Carbondale community. Many people remembered eating ice cream on the sidewalk with their friends and family when they were kids and watching the cars and floats during the Halloween parades pass by.
