Local teen arrested in connection with Polar Bear shooting

A unidentified 17-year-old male from Carbondale was arrested on charges related to the Jan. 30 shooting of SIU student Spencer DePue. 

The teen was charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm, according to a Carbondale Police Department press release. 

DePue, a senior studying management at the time of the incident, suffered a single gunshot wound to his upper-right shoulder when an armed robber approached him near Cedarview Drive and East Walnut Street demanding property, the Daily Egyptian previously reported

DePue was treated and released from Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, according to the release.

The teen was held at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center. Police are continuing their investigation to identify two other suspects involved.
