One man died and four others were wounded Sunday morning in shootings near the University of Illinois in Champaign, police there said.

Champaign police say an argument at a party in the 300 block of East Green Street spilled outside, where a fight broke out and shots were fired. Police responded to multiple reports of gunfire at roughly 12:38 a.m.

The four people shot — three of whom sustained non-critical injuries — were not involved in the fight, authorities said.

A person running from the shooting was hit by a vehicle on East Green Street and suffered minor injuries.

About 30 minutes after the first shooting — at 1:08 a.m. — Champaign police responded to another report of gunfire in the 700 block of South State Street, where officers found a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Champaign police believe the two shootings may be related.
