The SIU volleyball team (6-3) finished the Tulsa Invitational with a 3-1 victory (25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 27-25) against host school Tulsa (3-7).

In the third and final match this weekend, SIU recorded 14 blocks. Sophomore hitter Alex Rosignol led the team with 11 block assists.

“Our sets are usually pretty fast, but [Tulsa] sets were really high so it gave us some time to get over,” Rosignol said. “I think that’s why we had so many blocks.”

Rosignol also led the Salukis in attack efficiency at .417.

The Salukis had four reception errors in the match. Minimizing mistakes defensively has been a message coach Justin Ingram has been pushing all season.

“You’re always hopeful that you can get them out of system,” Ingram said. “That’s something that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet.”

The fourth set of the match went into extra points. During the final 15 points, there were nine ties and four lead changes. Junior libero Mariana Pilon and her team ended the match in the competitive fourth set.

“The ball hardly touched the floor in the fourth set,” Pilon said. “We should have beaten them in three [sets] so we really didn’t want the match to go to five.”

SIU plays Southeast Missouri State at 6 p.m.
