Newly hired football coach Nick Hill is bringing back an alumnus to coach his safeties, he said Tuesday.

Marty Rodgers, who was a safety for SIU from 2006 to 2009, is the fourth coach added to the roster after Hill kept three coaches and a graduate assistant from former coach Dale Lennon’s staff.

Rodgers served as the safeties coach at North Dakota for the prior two seasons. The team was 12-11 overall and 8-8 in the Big Sky Conference. Last season his starting safeties finished second and fourth on the team in tackles.

The former Dawg is 23rd in SIU history with 238 tackles and was a second-team all-conference selection in 2008. Rodgers is also the older brother of Boo Rodgers, who graduated in 2014.
