Every track on “III” was a gem in its own special way; every song had a theme or specific feeling for Wayne to base his rhymes on. But ‘IV’ has very few…

Tennis team puts focus on leadership

Team size was a concern for the women’s tennis team in the spring, but the addition of four recruits has turned what was once a weakness into a strength.

The previous season included complications and adversity for the SIU women’s tennis program. Only five members consistently suited up. Those five don’t include the group’s only senior, now-graduated Vishakha Sheoran, who was sidelined much of the season with an injury.

Faculty concerns rise, budget adjustments undecided

With the possibility that adjustments to SIU college budgets may be based on credit hours, some deans were concerned with the potential outcome.

Gary Kolb, dean of the College of Mass Communications and Media Arts, said if budget adjustments are not based on enrollment, the college may be at a disadvantage.

“We won’t benefit from that as much as other colleges,” Kolb said. “Our incoming freshmen aren’t taking classes in our…

Administration: Tuition revenue, budget cuts to improve budget deficit

As a new academic year begins, the university faces a $5.7 million deficit, a shortfall close to half of the $11.5 million deficit one year ago.

The proposed 2.2 percent budget cuts to all colleges at SIUC and non-auxillary departments is a part of Chancellor Rita Cheng’s plan to reduce the deficit. The cut is projected to make up for a $1.3 million reduction in state appropriations for fiscal year…

A change in the SIUC health insurance in August allows students to cancel their policy online by Sept. 2  for a shorter process and less office work.

Each student has access to the Health and Wellness Center services on campus, but there are medical areas it cannot cover, said Dr. Ted Grace, director of the Student Health Center. Students enrolled at SIUC are required to have a health insurance policy…
