Armed robbery attempt, arrest at Bank of Carbondale

A 30-year-old Carbondale man was arrested Monday afternoon after allegedly attempting an armed robbery at the Bank of Carbondale.

Darrell L. Hendricks, of 911 North Marion St., was armed with a knife and still inside the bank when Carbondale police arrived after responding to the call at 12:59 p.m., according to the police report.

Officers were able to enter the bank, subdue Hendricks and arrest him without incident, police said.

Hendricks, who is being held at the Jackson County Jail in Murphysboro, was charged with armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

No injuries to bank personnel or customers were reported.

The bank, located at 216 E. Main St., closed for a short time while police interviewed witnesses and employees present during the incident. Vice President of the Bank of Carbondale, Rhonda Hartman, could not be reached for comment.
